Soft Shadows Japan Debut via HANDS AND MOMENT

soft shadows japan hands and moment tower records

信じられない。。。早稲田大学留学生とき、学級終わったらタワーレコードによく行って色々な音楽を聞きました。 Can’t believe this is happening. Back in the day, I use to browse the catalogue over at Tower Records Shibuya after coming back from school. So still in shock when I say, Soft Shadows will be available at Tower Records Japan as a special Japanese edition release through our Japan label, HANDS AND MOMENT! Check the super nice featured article that Tower Records posted.

日本の皆さん、楽しみにして!

トゥイ

– Thuy

————————————-

Backstage with Toy and Soft Shadows

Thuy-Duong : May 4, 2014 9:50 am : Blog, Shows

Some photos I took throughout the night.

Toy starts off with “Conductor”, a slow, steady rhythmic one-chord 7-minute rumbling bass intro that quaked Doug Fir on the same scale as a small jet preparing for lift off. Definitely my favorite live.

Reverb Is for Lovers Record Release @ Bunk Bar 10/29/13

Thuy-Duong : October 24, 2013 1:31 pm : Blog, Press, Shows

Our record release show for Reverb Is for Lovers will be at Bunk Bar – Tuesday, October 29th. We’ll be teaming up with the sweet sounds of Appendixes and Wishyunu to celebrate! Appendixes is hitting the roads for their west coast tour the next day and Wishyunu just flew in from NY coming back from CMJ. So, it’ll be like a happy little reunion before we go different ways again. CD’s and 7″‘s will be available for sale.

Portland Mercury write up for the show:
SOFT SHADOWS, WISHYUNU, APPENDIXES
(Bunk Bar, 1028 SE Water) Tonight, Soft Shadows—who formerly went by Sundaze—play a release show for their debut album, Reverb Is for Lovers. The band’s dreamy blend of shoegaze pop pairs perfectly with the crisp fall nights we’ve been having lately. Soft Shadows take cues from the glory days of shoegaze, bringing to mind the delicate bliss of Galaxie 500, adding just enough distortion to tickle your ears but not drench the music. Much like WL did earlier this year on their debut, Soft Shadows position themselves at the front of a strong pack of Portland dream-weavers. If My Bloody Valentine decide to schedule a Portland date, plenty of local bands are making the type of beautiful, thunderous noise that could work as a worthy opening act. On Reverb Is for Lovers, Soft Shadows make an awfully strong case to fill that slot. CT

Debut album “Reverb Is For Lovers”

Thuy-Duong : October 7, 2013 8:39 am : Blog

We’re excited to announce our debut full-length album, “Reverb Is For Lovers”, is completely finished and ready to go! Every step along the way from conception to album artwork has been under our close care and we’re very proud of this body of work. The drop date is October 22, 2013 through Neon Sigh.

To help spread our music across the airwaves nationwide, we have set up an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for a proper professional radio campaign. The Indiegogo will end October 21, 2013, a day before the album release date. Here’s a chance to place pre-orders for the album, along with other fun perks we have listed for the generous contributions. Thank you for the love and support, we couldn’t be here without you.

Soft Shadows + Snowden + SuckerForLights + The We Shared Milk + Lotsa Voodoo Doughnuts

Soft Shadows SuckerForLights Voodoo Doughnuts

Soft Shadows entangled with SuckerForLights

Autumn Andel of Prefixmag did a massive 4-band coverage of the “Snowden Live at Hawthorne” show last Friday, June 14. Even with the early evening summer sun still out – tempting barbecues, beers and outdoor good looks, we managed to open an early set and collected several curious onlookers, which ultimately led to a full-blown creepy horse and unicorn head dance to top off the evening. Snowden, Soft Shadows, SuckerForLights, The We Shared Milk at Hawthorne Theater in Portland, OR ( June 14, 2013)

In the trendy SE Portland neighborhood, Friday night party started early at the Hawthorne Theater. The headliner, Austin’s Snowden, made it to the venue about an hour before the door, fighting the long twelve hour drive from San Francisco. But before the dream pop rock trio would closed out the night, three Portland bands who have been creating some buzz here and there took the stage. Soft Shadows and SuckerForLights dwell in the similar territory with their shoegaze-y glo-fi pop while The We Shared Milk provided a bit more rock to the hazy guitar synth-laced music theme of the night. Making the event a very Portland affair, Voodoo Doughnut generously donated treats for all four bands, while men with unicorn and squirrel masks danced and cheered the night away.

Preview the trailer for Nokia Music x Sundance Channel Documentary, “New American Noise”

Thuy-Duong : January 11, 2013 6:48 am : Press

Nokia Music New American Noise

Director Abteen Bagheri giving ideas to June Kang during the Interstate filming. Photo by Thuy-Duong.

Can’t believe this is coming to an actualization. Back last year (as Sundaze at the time) we were invited to do a Nokia Music documentary that will be aired on the Sundance Channel. Led by direction of Abteen Bagheri, we asked our friends Appendixes, WL and Lubec to help represent the Portland (shoegaze) music scene. Now that Sundance Film Festival is just around the corner in a week, we got to see for the first time the trailer come into fruition. Watch the official trailer here at New American Noise. Coming soon January 18th, 2013 on the Sundance Channel.

See a longer version of the trailer here on Entertainment Weekly, where it opens up with Portland scene and our song, “Whatever You Say.”

The Deli Magazine’s Best of Portland Emerging Artists Year End Poll 2012 1st Place Honorable Mention

Thuy-Duong : January 4, 2013 7:50 pm : Press

The Deli Magazine Best of Portland Year End Poll 2012

Wow, we’re all excited that this happened! Soft Shadows made its transformational debut late in the year 2012 (we played our first show in November) and somehow, we found ourselves on The Deli Magazine’s Best of Portland Emerging Artists Year End Poll 2012 list as 1st place runner-up honorable mention (we received a 6.3, just 0.2 points shy from making the final cut). Just the mention alone in one of the largest turnouts of highly competitive and talented bands, it comes as a great surprise and honor that we were recognized for 2012, even though we only recently released our first Soft Shadows single mid-December. We got off on a good push from 2012 – here’s to a great year 2013!

QRO Magazine review on “I Want To Be With You” Video

Thuy-Duong : November 29, 2012 8:39 pm : Press

QRO Magazine graciously wrote a piece on the “I Want To Be With You” music video.

Portland trio Sundaze, who QRO featured on our mp3 page back in May with “Wish You Lived Alone” (QRO mp3 review), recently became a duo and are now Soft Shadows.  New track “I Want to Be With You”was written before the name change, and the essence of their sound hasn’t changed since the project is largely the work of the frontman, June Kang. Accompanying the longing, fragile vocals is Kang’s trademark virile guitar riffs – a gratifying counterpoint to keep the song from becoming too sentimental.

Soft Shadows’ synth player, Thuy-Duong Le created a video for “I Want to Be With You”, by editing together footages she gathered from her visits to Bình Dương, Vietnam and Kyoto, Japan via on foot, motobike, rickshaw and Shinkansen (bullet train). Le had no intention of making a music video on her trip, but somehow the images fell nicely into a song about a girl aimlessly wondering, looking to be found.
